The prevalence of myopia is increasing more quickly than ever before. The incidence of myopia in UK children has more than doubled in the past few decades. It is estimated that 50% of the world’s population with be myopic by 2050.
Myopia progression is associated with the development of sight threatening conditions later in life. Problems like glaucoma, retinal detachment and macular degeneration are much more common in myopes. It is therefore important that we do all that we can to try and reduce myopia progression in children and young adults.
Myopia management is the practice of trying to slow down myopia progression. The aim is to try and ensure that your child will grow up with a lower level of myopia than they would have without treatment, thereby reducing their future risk of developing sight threatening conditions.
It is well recognised that specialist contact lenses can help to reduce myopia progression. We offer the only CE approved product for myopia control in the UK, a soft daily disposable contact lens called MiSight. This lens has been clinically proven to reduce myopia progression in children.
If your child is myopic and you would like to discuss the MiSight contact lens please ask our team to book you and your child in for an initial consultation.
